Greg Wright was, most recently, General Manager of Camden Council, one of the fastest growing local government authorities in Australia, located on the urban fringe of Sydney.
Having secured an undergraduate business degree (1989) from Charles Sturt University in New South Wales, he also has a Master of Business Administration degree (1996) from Deakin University in Victoria. In addition, Greg has completed a Diploma in Financial Services focusing on directorship and is an active participant in professional development and learning opportunities.
As General Manager at Camden Council from 2004 to 2012, Greg had responsibility for a broad range of services and facilities for a community of 60,000 people, though that population is planned to grow to 275,000 over the next 20 years. The Council in 2012 had 300 staff and an annual operating budget of $ 120 million.
Greg is the Chairman of the Macarthur Credit Union Ltd, having been a Director since 1994. He has been a member of the Board Audit Committee and Chairman of the Strategy Group. Macarthur Credit Union, one of the fastest growing and most successful community banks in Australia, has assets of $200 million and an annual turnover exceeding $2 billion. He spent six years as a board
director and National Councillor with the Australasian Mutuals Institute.
In addition to his responsibilities in the government and corporate world, Greg is on the boards of several community based organisations and also found time in the past to pass on his knowledge to aspiring business leaders as a teacher of organisational behaviour and labour economics at tertiary level.
Since commencing his consultancy – Wrightassociates – in late 2012, Greg has been active in assisting a variety of organisations through the various elements of their strategic planning processes and is also a sought after mentor and governance advisor to senior managers in several different industries.
Greg's recent projects range across regional, remote and metropolitan locations and include appointments to the Conduct Review Panels of more than 60 New South Wales Councils; an 18 week commission as Interim General Manager of Broken Hill City Council with an organisational review brief; and working with two adjoining Sydney urban fringe Councils on a project to build closer collaboration in the wake of the recent Independent Review of Local Government.
